Packaging Guide

Packaging, explained simply

You don't need to be a packaging engineer to make a good decision. Here are the essentials — in plain language — so you know exactly what you're paying for.

1

What is "ply" and which one do I need?

Ply is the number of paper layers in a corrugated board. 3-ply suits light products (apparel, small goods). 5-ply handles heavier or fragile items and longer transit. 7-ply is for heavy industrial loads. The right ply protects your product without overpaying for material you do not need.

2

Understanding flute (E, B, C)

Flute is the wavy inner layer that gives a box its strength and cushioning. E-flute is thin with a fine surface — great for printed retail boxes. B-flute balances strength and print. C-flute offers more cushioning for shipping. We pick flute based on whether print quality or protection matters more for your product.

3

GSM and bursting strength explained

GSM (grams per square metre) measures paper weight, and bursting strength measures how much pressure a box can take before it fails. Higher is not always better — the goal is to match strength to your product weight and stacking, so boxes survive transit without inflating cost.

4

How to size a box correctly

A box that is too big invites crushing and raises dimensional-weight shipping charges. Too tight, and items get damaged or the box bursts. We size to your product plus the right protective gap, reducing both damage and freight cost.

5

Printing options that fit your brand

Flexo printing is cost-effective for simple logos on shipping boxes. Offset and digital printing give sharp, full-colour results for retail cartons and premium boxes. We match the method to your quantity, budget and brand requirement.

6

Reducing damage in transit

Most transit damage comes from the wrong box strength, poor void fill, or oversized boxes. The fix is a combination: correct ply and flute, snug sizing, and the right internal protection — bubble, foam or paper — for your product fragility.

Still not sure what you need?

That's normal — and it's exactly what we're here for. Describe your product and how it ships, and we'll recommend the right material, size and finish, with the reasoning behind it.
